Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled
Maintenance Mechanic
to join our team at our Romulus, MI facility. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a unionized facility offering outstanding benefits and pay, as well as a great work environment. The Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for handling maintenance-related duties to ensure the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment and machinery.
Scope of Work: This position applies to all members of the Maintenance department and any employees performing maintenance mechanic duties, including Maintenance Helpers working in the maintenance area. The Maintenance Mechanic is expected to follow safety protocols and procedures to minimize any potential environmental impacts as part of our ISO 14001 compliance.
Responsibilities:
Perform preventative maintenance (PM) and repairs on plant equipment and machinery. Diagnose mechanical issues and troubleshoot to ensure minimal downtime. Utilize welding, metalworking tools, and other mechanical tools to maintain, repair, and fabricate parts. Ensure compliance with safety standards, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety protocols. Be part of the plant's emergency response team and complete all required training and exercises, including HAZWOPER, confined space procedures, and hot work. Maintain documentation related to maintenance and repair activities. Operate forklift equipment and other machinery as required for the maintenance role. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Plant Engineer.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion and 25 pounds regularly. Ability to climb ladders, kneel, balance on platforms, and pass vision tests. Ability to pass a HAZMAT physical, including a pulmonary function test (PFT) and mask fit. Must be clean-shaven in areas where a mask fits to ensure proper seal. Must be willing to work overtime when needed; however, overtime is minimal, and weekend work is very rare.
Core Competencies:
Journeyman's status in maintenance (machine repair, millwright, electrical), or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to operate basic metalworking tools, such as lathes, drill presses, grinders, and metal cutting saws. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics. Ability to use computer systems for maintenance tracking and management. Ability to work with hazardous materials and complete required emergency response training. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure. Ability to follow instructions, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures. Valid driver's license and ability to pass a lift truck license test.

Work Environment:
Continuous exposure to moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical hazards, and excessive noise. Occasional work at heights, using appropriate PPE equipment. Exposure to adverse weather conditions. Minimal exposure to confined spaces.
