Energy Demand Manager - Individuals in this position have embraced the overall energy management environment and can readily crossover from supply side to demand side and back. This position will perform on the demand side or the supply side as necessary. In addition, the Energy Demand Manager is fluent in all supply and demand issues, including self-generation discussions, demand response, load management, alternate fuels, cogeneration systems and their applications and designing strategies for utilizing these possibilities. The individual is also expected to be capable of negotiating with Utility companies or third party EL or NG supply companies or to present a WestRock position to a public service commission or other regulatory body. While it is recognized that all individuals have strengths, the Energy Demand Manager will accept any assignment involving Energy or Energy Management and develop the expertise necessary to complete the assignment.
This position in the Energy Management Group is an integral part of WestRock\u2019s efforts to execute strategies to reduce costs by implementing energy cost and usage reduction initiatives across North America and the world. The person is an expert in Natural Gas, Electricity, Oil, Coal, Propane, and Biomass usage at paper mills and various converting plants. This position requires a person capable of addressing supply side and Demand activities, as well as direct support for Sustainability activities and integration with the overall organization. The position reports to the Senior Manager Global Supply and Renewable Energy.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Cross-functional team player with the leadership skills needed to influence, negotiate and work collaboratively with others.
Detailed knowledge of energy and its use in basic Manufacturing and Converting plant operations
Knowledge and understanding of Regulated and Deregulated energy and the tariffs that apply to them
Knowledge and understanding of Energy Procurement Strategies
Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing and power boiler operations
Ability to form strategic internal and external relationships
Experience in the Pulp and Paper or related industry a plus
Knowledge and understanding of the REC market and their application to Mills and Converting operations
Strong negotiation and project management skills with ability to plan and execute critical programs
Excellent written and oral communication skills
RESPONSIBLITIES:
Work with various touch points across the company including Operations, Engineering, Legal and Accounting to execute related activity to deliver results
Develop and manage strategies for Corporate-wide energy supply cost reductions and Energy Usage reduction initiatives.
Administer through energy team members, comprehensive energy procurement programs - includes conducting RFP\u2019s, analyzing market intelligence, negotiating contracts and maintaining contract documentation
Coordinate and/or Lead utility project development and implementation such as Utility supply upgrades, self-generation issues and Alternative Fuel Source projects.
Serve as a subject matter expert for all WRK Mills concerning Energy Supply, Demand and Energy Best Practices.
Recommend improvements to infrastructure equipment such as Air Compressors, Boilers, Chillers, Lighting systems for consumption reductions
Work with internal customers to ensure needs of facilities and division engineering are met within constraints of corporate policies.
Establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers
Responsible for identifying energy cost saving opportunities and complete or assist in analysis to determine potential upside and a path to achieve.
Understand market trends, supplier base, and supplier economics
Ensure compliance of internal WestRock policies and procedures.
