As a vital member of our Bridge Team, youll have the opportunity to work on transportation projects in Pennsylvania and throughout the East-Central region.
Our transportation projects include the design of new bridges, bridge widenings, rehabilitations, load ratings, and other transportation structures. Working with our talented Bridge Team, youll work to solve problems and challenges in a team environment where everyone is valued. As a self-motivated professional, you will work on bridge projects of various sizes and complexity under the guidance of experienced engineers and project managers.
When you join us as a Bridge Engineer, youll:
Support the development of projects through the conceptual/study phase, preliminary engineering, and final design and through to construction
Assist in the development of specifications, cost estimates, and preparation of final bid packages
Prepare and supervise staff in the CAD development of bridge details and plans sets
Compile Bridge Type, Size, and Location Studies
Coordinate bridge layouts, details, and constraints with other disciplines including Roadway, Drainage, and Survey
Identify creative and innovative bridge engineering solutions based on client, project, and site constraints
Perform calculations, assemble calculation packages, and provide bridge load ratings
Coordinate with a team to meet project milestones
Perform construction site visits (as needed)
Based in our Philadelphia, PA office, our hybrid work environment offers the flexibility of remote work while fostering in-person collaboration and connection.
Bachelors Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
P.E. licensure in Pennsylvania or ability to obtain within 6 months
Previous professional bridge design experience including precast concrete, cast-in-place concrete, and structural steel
Demonstrated experience on various types of bridges, to include analysis, design and plan development of new and rehabilitation projects
Previous experience working on PennDOT and/or the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission bridge projects
Strong written and oral communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
Thorough understanding of and practical experience applying the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications to transportation structures
Strong technical skills and a thorough understanding of bridge/structural technical standards
Extensive working knowledge of CAD systems - MicroStation and AutoCAD
Familiarity with bridge construction including site visits, construction inspection, or similar experience
Ideally, Youll Also Have: Bridge construction experience including site visits, construction submittal reviews, and construction inspection
Rail bridge experience
Bridge load rating experience
Design-Build (DB) experience
Ability and willingness to travel on occasion
Previous work experience with other highway or rail transportation agencies
Experience with Open Roads Designer and Open Bridge Designer
Experience with PennDOTs engineering design software programs
Experience with STAAD or other similar structural modeling programs
Active involvement in local engineering societies.
