Municipal Court Bailiff/Clerk
The City of Billings is seeking a Municipal Court Bailiff/Clerk to perform a variety of duties involved in establishing and maintaining the court calendar; prepare and process necessary materials and documents; and provide for the safety and security of the City Court Judge and courtroom. Provide a variety of clerical support as needed and the ability to multi-task. Salary Range: $18.9331 - $19.8714 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 2 of a 7-Step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts scheduled on a rotating basis between 5:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Open and closes court. Announce entry of judge. Maintain order in the courtroom. Escort witnesses into courtroom. Responsible for checking-in/seating defendants. Ensure safety and security of judge. Ensure safety of witnesses and others in the courtroom. Type scheduling orders and manage case flow. Set bonds using established guidelines. Collect fines and bail money. Control and maintain the court record. Receive, compile, prepare, assemble, organize, and deliver information, documents, and reports on cases coming before the court. Provide information to parties involved. Track defendants through the court process. Assume responsibility for the compilation of correct and pertinent information regarding defendant involvement in prior and current judicial proceedings. Obtain prior record information. Coordinate with jail personnel regarding prisoners. Escort defendants to court offices. Assume responsibility for the proper handling of mail for prisoners. Complete all documents necessary for prisoner's release. Serve as a resource regarding court policies, procedures, objectives, and operational functions. Answer questions and provide information. Resolve complaints and refer customers to appropriate source as necessary. Perform records searches. Perform Other Duties as Assigned. Required Qualifications and Skills: High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of clerical and customer service experience. Must have the ability to operate personal computers and advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, or equivalent. Must be able to pass a Federal and State criminal background check. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test. Preferred Qualifications and Skills: Court or legal experience. Equal Opportunity Employer.
