Job Summary Under direct supervision, the Train Service Personnel II works as a conductor and fireman for the Grapevine Vintage Railroad (GVRR) in a safe and efficient manner; provides a clean, safe and pleasant experience for employees and passengers; and promotes the Grapevine Vintage Railroad as a premier excursion railroad.

Essential Functions 1. Operates on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad as a fireman and conductor. As locomotive fireman, will be responsible for maintaining proper water level and steam pressure. As a Conductor, will be responsible for communicating with dispatchers, coordinating switching moves, and working with engineer to safely move train.

2. Works with other engine crew members to ensure on time departures and arrivals; ensures that fellow employees and passengers have a safe and pleasant experience.

3. Ensures equipment, facilities and grounds are secure, clean and well maintained; ensures cost effective repairs and maintenance of all equipment, grounds, and facilities.

4. Makes daily inspections of equipment in use; performs preventive maintenance inspections on locomotives and passenger coaches and related equipment.

5. Diagnoses malfunctions, services and repairs locomotive and train systems, including but not limited to brakes, electrical, cooling, fuel, exhaust, power train, suspension, and HVAC systems.

6. Completes all required reporting, record keeping and required Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) log reports and forms in a timely, accurate, and organized manner; ensures all records, files, forms and logs are well maintained and organized.

7. Maintains current rule book and special instructions.

8. Assists in needed repairs and scheduled maintenance of all equipment; assists in Roundhouse operations to include, but not limited to, the proper use, storage, ordering, and maintenance of tools, supplies, and equipment.

9. Participates in charters, special events and other duties as assigned.

10. Assist in volunteer programs to promote the Grapevine Vintage Railroad.

11. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.

12. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.

13. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work; must possess the ability to interact and entertain passengers.

14. Must be willing to work flexible hours, week-ends, and holidays.

15. Must pass GCOR exam with at least 85 percent passing grade. Must be able to pass and maintain CFR Title 49 Part 242 Conductor qualification within 90 days of hire.

Required Skills SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES • Knowledge of federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations applicable to locomotive and equipment standards. • Knowledge of the safety standards for passenger trains and related equipment. • Knowledge of federal railroad inspection standards. • Knowledge of the methods and procedures used in servicing and repairing steam, gasoline and diesel equipment. • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment mechanics, including internal combustion engines and hydraulic and electrical systems. • Ability to identify abnormal readings or trends in data collected from gauges, meters, dials, instruments, etc. according to established formats • Ability to follow oral and written directions. • Ability to diagnose defective operations and excessive wear on mechanical equipment parts and components. • Ability to diagnose and repair railroad equipment. • Ability to determine functional interrelationship of parts within a mechanical system. • Ability to interpret technical reference manuals. • Skill in operating a variety of equipment used in railroads maintenance and repair functions and operations including but not limited to forklifts, steam and diesel locomotives, passenger coaches, railroad switches, turn tables, two-way radio and a variety of hand and power tools. • Must be proficient in office procedures. Skill in operations of computers and communicating verbally, and in writing.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Requires high school diploma or GED.

Must successfully pass the GCOR rules test, with a score of not less than 85 and have verifiable experience as a "service covered" Railroad Conductor or Fireman, or have experience as a "service covered" TSP I with the City of Grapevine.

Must be proficient in current Federal Railroad Administration Code of Federal Regulations, Standard Book of Rules (GCOR), state and local laws and regulations.

The following are preferred: • Minimum of 1-year experience in the installation, inspection, and/or repairing of electrical systems to include 70v, 110v, 220v, and 480v systems; and/or • Minimum of 1-year experience in the installation, inspection, and/or repairing of HVAC systems. Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check.

Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.

Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, FRA 5 panel drug screen, and functional assessment screening (Level 1).

Must pass a pre-employment Department of Transportation Railroad (FRA) vision (Ishihara and Titmus) and audio screening.

Will be subject to periodic random drug and alcohol testing. Will be subject to Department of Transportation Railroad (FRA) vision and audio screenings every three years as required by law.
