Organizational Structure
The Bar Director will report to the Director of Outlets and Programming.
General Duties and Responsibilities Assist with the selection of all service associates as related to the beverage outlets of the hotel. Provide and direct the onboarding training of beverage service associates. Coach, counsel and administer discipline of beverage associates as required. Create work schedules, arrange and approve time off requests, assist with the overall smooth operation of the beverage outlets. Facilitate training for service staff within the beverage outlets; oversee and facilitate new associate departmental training. Create and oversee beverage inventories; in collaboration with the Purchasing department ensure inventories and beverage orders are submitted in a timely fashion. Assist with the development of beverage programs throughout the beverage outlets; collaborate with the culinary team to ensure beverage offerings are seasonal and complimentary to the menu items. Ensure service standards are being adhered to at all times; assist with resolution of all guest complaints; follow up on all service issues and ensure guest satisfaction is achieved. Be a presence on the floor during peak service hours to ensure guest satisfaction. Work with all departments across the hotel to ensure guest issues are communicated properly. Attend all meetings as required including: daily operations line-up; food & beverage departmental meetings; pre-con/post-con meetings. Facilitate departmental line-ups and departmental monthly meetings. Communicate to all service staff information regarding food and beverage special events, hotel information and local events. Special projects as assigned by the Director of Food & Beverage. Experience and Requirements
Must possess 2+ years of direct, related experience as a beverage manager in a luxury hotel lounge/bar or upscale lounge/bar venue is required. Must be an excellent communicator with fluency in English required. Must possess superior, demonstrated wine, beer, cocktail and liquor knowledge; must have experience in developing wine and whiskey lists; those with certifications in wine, beer, whiskey, etc will be strongly preferred. Prior experience with menu development is required; must have cocktail expertise and the ability to create cocktail and specialty beverage menus. Must have previous experience in staff selection, training and development of staff; must have experience in developing a high performing service staff. Prior experience with Forbes training is desirable. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include late nights, weekends and holidays. Must be physically able to meet the demands of the job including: standing/walking for extended periods of time while on shift; lift/carry/push/pull bulky boxes and items weighing in excess of 25 lbs.; must be able to work late nights to accommodate the bar and lounge service hours. Prior experience with specialty service, VIP service, etc. will be preferred.
