Position Details Shift:

Full-Time Position Purpose
The Temporary Services Mechanic is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting temporary utility systems such as ventilation, power, water, air, and fuel support used aboard ships under repair. This position supports safety and efficiency by ensuring that all temporary services are functional and in compliance with OSHA, NAVSEA, and shipyard safety standards.
Guidelines by Level
Journeyperson 4
Oversees small work teams and plans, organizes, and prioritizes tasks Proficient in freeze protection, backflow preventers, and fire station maintenance Installs water coolers and ensures compliance with safety regulations Knowledgeable in applicable OSHA and NAVSEA standards Journeyperson 3
Installs/maintains freeze protection systems, backflow preventers, and air dryers Sets up hydrostatic tests and installs rat guards Performs walk-through inspections for NAVSEA compliance (009-07, 009-08, 009-28) Tests and repairs air/water manifolds and installs quick disconnects near hull penetrations Journeyperson 2
Routes and inspects hoses, ducting, and electrical leads with limited supervision Assists with installation and testing of air/water systems Understands safety protocols and temporary equipment setup Installs quick disconnects and water coolers Journeyperson 1
Assists with all temporary utility installations and shipboard routing Reads ship layout drawings and understands compartmental nomenclature Performs receipt inspections of rental equipment (air compressors, generators, etc.) Certified in forklift operation and experienced in safe fuel handling Completes all work in compliance with NAVSEA 009-08, 009-24, and 009-28 Ensures safe and clean work environment and proper PPE usage Physical Requirements
Must be able to: carry, lift, walk, climb, kneel, stoop, crouch, sit, and stand Must be able to go aboard ships, work in confined spaces, and tolerate environmental extremes Visual and auditory acuity required for compliance and operational awareness Accountability
Responsible for ensuring all temporary services are safely installed, maintained, and inspected per project requirements Must adhere strictly to safety standards and ensure compliance with work authorizations Working Relationships
