Position Overview: Connected Healthcare is seeking an experienced Orthopedic Surgical Technologist for a permanent position at a multi-specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) in Peoria, IL. Surgical Techs with a specialty background in orthopedics will cross-train to become multi-specialty in various surgical services.
Key Responsibilities:
Scrub in for orthopedic cases following sterile procedures, setting up back tables and mayo stands, and preparing necessary instruments and supplies for surgery. Assist surgeons during surgery by passing instruments, sutures, sponges, and other sterile supplies, and anticipating their needs. Observe sterile technique at all times, assisting in draping, holding retraction devices, and supporting the surgical team. Prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary equipment and instruments are ready and sterile. Assist with surgical specimen collection and notify the circulating nurse of specimen source. Perform counts of sponges, needles, and instruments used during surgery, and assist with sterile dressing of the operative site following surgery. Support circulating duties under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Clean the operating room and dispose of used case carts and instruments per established procedures. Provide guidance and support to department staff, including precepting new employees and student technologists. Stay current on the latest surgical equipment, techniques, and trends through required in-service programs and department meetings. Support the ASC's continuous quality improvement efforts to improve patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and efficient use of resources. Qualifications:
Minimum 2+ years of experience as a Surgical Technologist. Experience in orthopedic surgery is required. Willingness to cross-train in additional specialties (General, Plastics, Ortho, Gynecology, Eye, ENT, Podiatry, etc.). Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and surgical procedures. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage multiple tasks. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and patients. Ability to follow standard operating procedures and maintain patient safety during surgical procedures. Certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred, but not required. Working Environment:
Surgical suites with minimal exposure to excessive noise, dust, or temperature extremes. Potential exposure to infectious diseases, with appropriate safety measures in place. Exposure to latex products. Work is performed in a clinical setting, following strict safety and infection control procedures.
