Job SummaryPosition Summary: The custodian is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance duties to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of school district facilities. This position involves working collaboratively with other custodial staff and school district personnel to maintain high standards of cleanliness and support the overall operations of the school.Reports To:Principal or Assigned District AdministratorClassification: Full-Time (Classified)FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Work Term: 222 DaysFull-Time Salary Range:MCBOE Salary ScheduleQualifications:High school diploma (required)Previous custodial and janitorial experience in a school setting (preferred)Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start dateEssential Duties and Responsibilities:Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors in classrooms, hallways, offices, and common areasClean and disinfect restrooms, including sinks, toilets, and fixtures, to maintain a sanitary environmentEmpty trash receptacles and dispose of waste in designated areasStrip and wax floors during designated timesWipe down and sanitize surfaces such as desks, tables, countertops, and door handles to prevent the spread of germsPerform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs, fixing leaks, and repairing broken fixturesReport any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate supervisor for prompt resolutionAssist with setting up and breaking down furniture and equipment for school events and activitiesMaintain outdoor areas, including sidewalks, parking lots, and playgrounds, by sweeping, raking, and removing debrisMonitor and report any damage or vandalism to outdoor facilities or equipmentEnsure that all doors, windows, and gates are securely locked at the end of each shiftAssist with monitoring building access and responding to security alarms or emergency situations as neededFollow established safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplaceWork collaboratively with other custodial staff and school personnel to coordinate cleaning schedules and prioritize tasksCommunicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and school administrators to address any concerns or special cleaning requirementsPerform other duties as assigned by the principal and other district administratorsRequired Skills and Competencies:Ability to follow both oral and written directions and instructions.
