Position Summary

The Athletic Director is responsible for overseeing the Parish and School Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Athletic Program. This role serves as the primary liaison between the Archdiocese of Detroit CYO Athletic Office, league officials, and the Parish/School community. The Athletic Director ensures the program aligns with Catholic values, promotes sportsmanship, and provides a positive athletic experience for students in grades 3-8.

Key Responsibilities

1. Program Oversight & League Coordination Organize and manage seasonal league play and playoffs for boys' and girls' teams in grades 4-8 across sports such as baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, lacrosse, soccer, softball, track, and volleyball. Schedule teams, facilities, officials, and playoff venues. Manage cheerleading competitions and instructional camps for girls ages 6-16. 2. Coaches & Volunteer Management

Recruit, train, and supervise qualified coaches and volunteers. Ensure all coaches attend certification workshops and meet training requirements (CPR, First Aid, Concussion Protocol). Organize pre-season coach meetings to review rules, philosophy, and policies. Support coaches in conducting parent meetings and provide communication tools. Ensure compliance with the Protecting God's Children program and other Archdiocesan standards. 3. Athletic Program Administration

Develop and maintain athletic policies and procedures in collaboration with the school principal. Manage player registration, including distributing and collecting materials. Maintain inventory of equipment, uniforms, and first aid supplies. Coordinate scheduling of practices and games and communicate any changes. Distribute official league schedules and updates to coaches. Collaborate with the Booster Club on fundraising and promotional activities. Coordinate budget planning with the Director of Finance. 4. Parish & League Representation

Represent the Parish at league meetings and serve as a liaison to the CYO Office. Demonstrate strong knowledge of CYO bylaws, ensuring player eligibility and adherence to the Catholic athletic philosophy. 5. Event & Calendar Coordination

Align all athletic events with Parish and School calendars. Annually meet with the Pastor to review the CYO program and ensure alignment with Parish mission. Attend and support home games, ensuring safety and smooth operations. 6. Team Evaluation & Catholic Identity

Facilitate post-season evaluations of teams and coaches. Encourage team participation in at least one Parish Mass per season. Promote a Catholic-centered athletic environment in alignment with Gospel values and Church teachings. Set high behavioral expectations and provide consistent, faith-based discipline. Model Catholic values in both personal and professional conduct. 7. Special Events

Coordinate participation in events such as the Fall CYO Prep Bowl, including recognition of champions, scholar-athletes, and cheer/dance showcases. 8. Additional Duties

Attend regular Staff Huddle meetings. Participate in ongoing training and professional development. Maintain confidentiality and serve as a professional representative of the Catholic Church. Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.

Qualifications & Requirements Active Roman Catholic, committed to living and modeling Gospel values. Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Sports Management, Education, or related field. Experience in athletic administration or coaching, CYO experience preferred. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to collaborate with students, parents, staff, and Parish leadership. Ability to lift at least 35 lbs. Must pass background check, fingerprinting, be certified in CPR and Concussion protocols, and complete Protecting God's Children training. Familiarity with Archdiocesan policies and guidelines preferred.
