seeking a full-time Administrative Assistant.
This is a non-exempt position with benefits including health/dental/vision insurance and paid time off. Salary begins at $18.60 per hour.
The employee serving in this position performs a wide variety of secretarial and record keeping services for the Sheriffs Office. This employee will sort and file documents, prepare and handle letters, memoranda, and forms, answer the telephone, assist with office inventory, and related duties as assigned. This position acts as backup for the Administrative Supervisor as needed.
Candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent with two years of post-secondary school desirable. Two years of general office experience preferred. Candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills and should be familiar with office management procedures and equipment typical to this position. This position involves frequent contact with Sheriffs Office personnel and moderate contact with the public. May be subject to call in and overtime.
Successful candidate(s) will be required to pass pre-employment testing including: background check, physical, work screen, and drug test.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs a wide variety of secretarial and record keeping services for the Sheriffs Office. The roles, responsibilities, job functions, knowledge, skills and abilities set forth herein may be revised from time-to-time in order to comply with federal and state laws, departmental needs and the changing requirements for this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Sort and file documents according to predetermined classification. Retrieve and issue documents and legal papers for authorized personnel. Prepare letters, memoranda and forms from rough drafts, tapes and other sources. Obtain appropriate signatures and file. Assist in determining need for office supplies and equipment and is responsible for the security of the office supplies and equipment. Complete requisitions for inventory replacements. Answers telephone, interview and direct callers. Take and route messages as required. As backup for the Administrative Supervisor as assigned. Duty to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that employee gets along with customers, citizens, coworkers and management. Being pleasant, respectful and civil with others on the job and displaying a good-natured, cooperative attitude. Maintaining composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in very difficult situations. Obligation to be reliable, responsible, dependable, and fulfill duties. Must show up for work on a regular and predictable basis as scheduled. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: Perform duties as matron. May be required to attend training sessions or seminars. Perform related work as required by Administrative Supervisor or Sheriff. QUALIFICATIONS : Experience:
Two years of general office experience preferred. Persons in this position are expected to be performing at a competent level after six months on the job. Education:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Two years post-secondary school desirable. Knowledge:
Acquire knowledge of statutory requirements applicable to this position. Must give the ability to receive, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions. Required to read, write and speak English fluently with the ability to speak a foreign language helpful. Skills:
Operate typewriter, computer, calculator, fax machine, copier and shredder. Problem Solving:
Moderate amounts of situations arise in this position that are outside established procedures. Decision Making:
Moderate situations arise in this position. May occasionally involve complex decision making when acting for Supervisor. Supervisory:

May experience high level, short-term periods of high intensity physical effort when serving as a matron. Requires sufficient visual acuity to read and write and operate office equipment.
