Description Under immediate supervision, performs semi-skilled, technical and semi-labor intensive work.
Examples of Duties The Light Equipment Mechanic day-to-day tasks include minor repairs, adjustments, and preventative maintenance for all small gas-powered engine that include, but are not limited to, pipe saws, water/sewer pumps, Wacker tamps, boring machines, and trailers.
This position requires the knowledge of tools, equipment, and procedures used to overhaul, repair, and adjustments of light equipment, mechanical and electrical components of small mechanical equipment; use of a variety of hand and power tools related to equipment maintenance; ability to diagnose and inspect difficulties with equipment; maintain equipment records and reports; and operate forklift.
This position will be required to work inside and outside in weather; works closely with vendors, obtaining quotes for tools and equipment and making the necessary appointments; responsible for complying with OSHA regulated rules within the shop as well as outside the shop, and having monthly inspections to stay in compliance; and other duties as assigned. This position may require operating specialty equipment such as backhoes, street saws, skid steers, sewer bypass pumps, and vacuum sewer trucks.
Typical Qualifications Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma (supplemented by specialized training courses in maintenance and repair of light mechanical equipment), mechanical knowledge of small engines, knowledge of metric and standard tools, preferred two years' experience performing repair and maintenance of light mechanical equipment.
Supplemental Information Must be able to lift or move minimum of 50 lbs. and maneuver up to one (1) mile on foot; must be able to work with large and small power and hand tools. This position requires work outdoors, as well as bending, stooping, and climbing. May be exposed to changing weather, adverse smells and sights, loud sounds and repetitive operations. May occasionally require weekend hours for emergency repairs on equipment. Other Requirements: Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license upon hire.
