Job Description
Our client, a respected manufacturer in the Montague, MI area, is seeking an experienced
Controls Engineer
to lead industrial automation projects from initial concept through successful implementation. This
direct hire
position offers the opportunity to work on both new equipment builds and enhancements to existing systems, playing a key role in improving production efficiency, quality, and reliability. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and leverage cutting-edge automation technology to ensure systems meet rigorous safety and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities Design controls systems for automated assembly cells using
E-plan
software. Program PLCs, HMIs, data collection, and other automation systems for both new and modified equipment. Conduct documented safety risk assessments for all automated systems. Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges. Research and recommend technology upgrades for existing equipment. Interface with customer engineering teams to ensure products and processes meet or exceed specifications. Program and integrate
machine vision systems
(Cognex, Keyence) and
robotics
(Fanuc, Denso). Modify machine control programs to optimize performance, quality, and efficiency. Partner with Product Engineering to design products and systems with continuous improvement and manufacturability in mind. Perform additional duties as assigned by management. Job Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
in Electrical, Controls, or Software Engineering
and
5+ years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong understanding of product engineering principles and statistical methods for process evaluation. Extensive experience with:
PLCs:
Siemens, Allen-Bradley Robots:
Fanuc, Denso Machine Vision:
Keyence, Cognex
Proven ability to interpret customer specifications for high-volume production automation. Experience integrating PLCs with coil winding equipment (preferred). Proficiency in test system operations for manufacturing environments. Preferred Skills & Attributes
Experience with LabVIEW programming. Strong project management abilities from concept through completion. Excellent communication skills for working with internal and external stakeholders. Creative problem solver with a focus on efficiency, quality, and safety. Continuous improvement mindset with up-to-date knowledge of automation technology. Titles Encouraged to Apply:
