The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is looking to fill a Controller position. Under the general supervision of the Director of Accounting, the Controller is responsible for all aspects of accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting in a multi-company environment consisting of the not-for-profit international labor union, the for-profit building services corporation, the strike and defense fund, two pension plans, several benefit plans, the political action committee, the non-profit scholarship fund, and the non-profit disaster relief fund.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervises the preparation of the monthly financial statements for all companies. Provides special or interim reports and statements as requested by top management. Prepares and/or assists in preparing reporting forms including IRS Form 990, DOL/IRS Form 5500, DOL Form LM-2, and any required corresponding state filings. Responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluation, in conjunction with the Director of Accounting, of the General Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Travel Accounting Sections. Interprets accounting literature and terminology including promulgations and standards issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Internal Revenue Code, and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, as amended. Recommends changes in accounting policies and procedures to meet updates required by new accounting pronouncements or to improve operational efficiencies. Assists with periodic review and updating of the Accounting Policies and Procedures manual. Aids in the implementation and ongoing operation of the financial accounting software systems. Coordinates annual financial audit with independent accounting firm. Prepares the annual budget. Responsible for IBT Insurance Policies. Assists with the accounting for government grants and the A-133 audit. Supports the review and approval of journal entries. Assists with banking transaction controls including reviewing and approving bank wire transactions, ACH transactions and positive pay. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Accounting.

Requirements:

Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Effectively presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers, superiors, and subordinates. Proficient in the use of MS Office, including expert level proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial software. Must have strong leadership and organizational skills. Demonstrated emotional maturity to function in stressful situations. Understands the role of the position within organizational structure. Ability to exercise tact and seek positive solutions to problems when interacting with peers, employees from other departments, IBT affiliates, vendors, and other individuals and organizations. Demonstrated verbal and written communications skills, including communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Ability to pay close attention to detail. Committed to the goals of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in accounting from a four-year college or university required; Masters preferred. CPA required. Five or more years' related experience and/or training in the field of labor unions, employee benefit plans, trust funds, or other non-profit organizations. Experience with reporting requirements specific to labor unions preferred. Demonstrated working knowledge of accounting practices and procedures, union structure, and local and federal filing requirements. Experience working in both the public and private sectors preferred.

Starting salary ranges from $140,000.00 to $175,000.00 The IBT offers a robust benefits package including a 100%-employer paid health & welfare plan, vacation & sick leave, pension, FICA reimbursement, and 401(k).
