Humane World for Animals, a global leader in animal advocacy and protection, is seeking a Media Relations Coordinator for the Media Relations department. In this position you will increase media coverage of Humane World for Animals and their initiatives by assisting members of the Media Relations department in creating media lists and reports, helping program staff route media requests through our project management system, using an online media database, performing research, editing, technical tasks, and other specialized communications duties. Responsibilities: • Provides support to the team by preparing media documents, including routing documents to staff members throughout the organization, compiling input, organizing edits in a timely manner, and helping staff navigate our project management system; • Develops and maintains targeted media lists with relevant reporters, media outlets and opportunities to position animal protection issues; • Assists with distributing press releases to media. Aids reporters in accessing downloadable photos, videos, and other assets. Posts press releases onto the organizations’ websites using the software provided; • Utilizes a media database to collect and format metrics for department and media coverage reports and analysis, including creating daily and monthly reports. Assists other members of the department in using the database for research and metrics; • Coordinates various elements of Media Relations projects, including online visual assets and logistical issues. Stays up to date with rapidly developing campaigns and assists the team as needed; • Performs communications duties including those that relate to scheduling meetings, interviews and trainings. Assists other staff members with technical processes such as creating metric reports and reports that list media coverage earned, fielding incoming media inquiries, researching reporters and outlets, and creating graphics, charts and presentations about the department’s metrics; • Receives inquiries from news media and members of the public and identifies the best person in the organization to respond to them. Schedules interviews with spokespeople; • Under the supervision of senior Media Relations staff, drafts and edits press releases, advisories, letters to the editor, pitch letters and other collateral material for the news media; • Assists with X accounts by generating content, driving engagement with reporters and utilizing them for research. Coordinates with the social media team and President/CEO office on regular promotion of the blog through appropriate social channels; • Performs other duties or responsibilities, as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements: • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, mass communications, or English, or equivalent work experience preferred; • A minimum of one (1) year of professional experience or an internship in the field of mass communications required; • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and Internet use. • Strong written and verbal communication skills; • Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes; • Strong interpersonal skills are necessary. • Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred. This position is in the DC Metro Area- Remote Eligible.
