Dean of Liberal Arts

who will be all-in on our mission and who supports the faculty in this area by implementing the College's Strategic Plan insofar as it relates to Liberal Arts; by training and supervising the Liberal Arts chairs and the coordinator of the Honors Program; by fostering a collaborative, positive work environment; by knowing, communicating, and applying Academic Affairs' policies and procedures; by sharing the perspectives of the Liberal Arts faculty and students in discussions with other administrators, as appropriate; and by creditably representing the College to students, colleagues, and the community. Qualifications

EDUCATION: Required:

Master's degree in a discipline in Liberal Arts, Creative Arts, or Education.

EXPERIENCE: Required:

Three (3) years of full-time faculty experience in an institution of higher education and two years supervising faculty.

Preferred:

Five (5) years of full-time faculty experience in an institution of higher education and three years supervising faculty, with experience working with budgets, faculty evaluations, and accreditation Job Duties & Responsibilities

Serve as the primary communication link between upper administration and Liberal Arts faculty and staff. Represent the Liberal Arts Division at required meetings and events, including convocations, ACES, All-Faculty meetings, and commencement. Participate in meetings with individuals and internal/external groups to advance divisional and institutional priorities. Formulate and implement strategies to achieve the College's mission, strategic plan, goals, and values. In collaboration with Institutional Effectiveness, assess the status of departments and programs within Liberal Arts and make innovative recommendations for continuous improvement. Oversee accreditation-related activities for Liberal Arts programs. Assist with accreditation duties Partner with department chairs, program coordinators, and Human Resources to recruit, onboard, and retain qualified faculty and staff. Provide training to new direct reports and perform their duties in the event of vacancies. Assist the VPAA and Associate Vice President of Academic Learning and Services in appointing new chairs or program coordinators. Conduct performance evaluations of direct reports, providing coaching and guidance as needed. Monitor Liberal Arts class schedules, budgets, faculty workload, census rosters, and timely submission of grades. Collaborate with College leadership to identify and resolve operational challenges. Promote student success, retention, and transfer within the Liberal Arts Division. Resolve student grievances in accordance with the Amarillo College Student Rights and Responsibilities. Guide faculty and staff through change management and conflict resolution processes. Engage in professional development and promote the professional development of others working in Liberal Arts. Oversee curriculum development and review to ensure academic quality, alignment with transfer pathways, and responsiveness to workforce and community needs. Steward resources by aligning budget priorities with strategic goals and pursuing external funding where appropriate. Perform other work-related duties as required. In-depth knowledge of higher education administration, academic program development, and curriculum assessment. Knowledge of regional and programmatic accreditation standards and processes. Understanding of student learning outcomes, assessment methods, and data-informed decision-making. Knowledge of budget development, fiscal management, and resource allocation in an academic setting. Knowledge of state and federal regulations, including Title IX, ADA, FERPA, and other compliance requirements affecting higher education. Understanding of trends, challenges, and best practices in liberal arts education and community college leadership. Superior oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively represent the College internally and externally. Strong leadership and team-building skills with a proven ability to motivate, inspire, and develop faculty and staff. Skill in conflict resolution, mediation, and consensus building in a shared governance environment. Analytical skills to interpret and use institutional data for program evaluation, enrollment management, and strategic planning. Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with community, educational, and industry stakeholders. Ability to balance strategic vision with day-to-day operational management. Ability to foster an inclusive, equitable, and respectful environment for diverse faculty, staff, and students. Ability to guide faculty and staff through change and innovation while maintaining morale. Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to protect and appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information. Ability to mentor faculty and staff for career growth and professional development.

Salary:

Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, and filing cabinets.
