Summary/General Description Of Job: The Rigger sets up or repairs rigging for construction projects, ship yards or other sites.

The incumbent maintains records on certified materials and equipment.

Essential Duties & Job Functions: §

Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material.

§

Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.

§

Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, with bolts and clamps.

§

Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes and chains, to crane hook.

§

Gives directions to Bridge‑or‑Gantry‑Crane Operator or Hoisting Engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to insure safety of workers and material handled, using hand signals, loudspeaker, or radio.

§

Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches.

§

Splices synthetic or natural fiber rope and wire cables to make or repair slings and tackle.

§

Pours sockets with resin or zinc.

§

May direct workers engaged in hoisting machinery and equipment into ships.

§

Maintains records on certified materials and equipment.

§

Tests and certifies rigging gear and equipment in accordance with applicable regulations.

§

May erect scaffolding.

§

Performs other related duties as assigned.

May perform work in other classifications when incidental work is necessary to the accomplishment of the work assignment.

Significant work in another job classification may be required if accompanied by any wage adjustments applicable.

Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work.

Adherence to established company safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices.

§

Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel policies and procedures.

Having the ability to work well under pressure.
