Job Summary:
Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. Perform general maintenance, repairs, and improvements for facilities, as needed. Ensure that all work is done in accordance with relevant codes.
Duties and Responsibilities: Assemble, install, test, or maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous. Test electrical switch gear, panels, motors and wiring. Test lighting fixtures, switches, outlets and other 120v - 480v electrical systems. Operate ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations. Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes. Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes. Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures. Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit banks, moving or lifting heavy objects, fit in small spaces. Must be able to work above head height and down to floor height. Be able to problem solve and come up with code compliant solutions on the fly. Required Skills, Knowledge and Training:
A minimum of five years' experience in electrical trade and new electrical construction primarily in commercial application. Must be a current card carrying certified state of California electrician. Expert knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and California Electric Code (CEC). Thorough knowledge of motor control centers. Must be proficient in reading single line diagrams and schematic. Skilled pipe bender and installer. Excellent electrical troubleshooting skills Strong written/verbal communication skills. Ability to read, write and speak in English; comprehend simple to complex instructions, short correspondence and memos. Strong computer skills. Strong mathematical skills. Acute attention to detail. Maintain reliable transportation to and from work. Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted. Continually required to walk, sit, stand, stoop, climb, push, pull, bend, squat and regularly use hands to reach, grasp, handle and feel. Frequently required to stand for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to work indoors and in various outdoor weather conditions (i.e., direct sunlight, heat, wet and/or humid conditions). Must be able to work extended hours, nights and weekends when needed. Occasionally perform job at heights of up to 350 feet (Sky Tower), but usually less than 80 feet (camera towers, exhibits stadium catwalks). Education Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Participation in a vocational or electrical apprentice program required.
