OVERVIEW:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of production equipment, industrial refrigeration systems, and facility infrastructure. This role performs preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs in accordance with company policies, safety standards, and good manufacturing practices (GMP).
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS:
Industrial Refrigeration & Mechanical Systems Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems, chillers, compressors, condensers, evaporators, and associated controls. Maintain and repair boilers, water heaters, HVAC units, and other mechanical systems to ensure consistent operation and regulatory compliance. Monitor system performance, pressures, and temperatures; make adjustments to optimize efficiency and reduce downtime. Maintain accurate logs and records of refrigeration performance, inspections, and maintenance activities. Facility & Equipment Maintenance
Perform general building and grounds maintenance in production and office areas, including basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks. Support build-outs and modifications of facility areas, ensuring proper installation of equipment and utilities. Conduct building upkeep tasks including painting, sanitation support, and light construction. Grounds & Site Upkeep
Perform landscaping, lawn care, and snow removal services across company sites to maintain safe and clean grounds. Safety & Compliance
Follow all company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and OSHA standards when performing maintenance tasks. Ensure compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements related to industrial refrigeration systems. Adhere to GMP standards and food safety regulations while working in production environments. Other
Participate in on-call rotation and respond to maintenance emergencies as needed. Collaborate with production and operations teams to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules. Other duties as assigned. Requirements
COMPETENCIES:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or trade school preferred. 3+ years of maintenance experience in food production, manufacturing, or similar industrial setting. Hands-on experience with industrial refrigeration systems. Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and P&ID drawings. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. EPA certification (Refrigeration/Universal); RETA certification a plus. Ability to work in cold storage/freezer environments and lift up to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee may be exposed to extreme cold environment. The employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level of the work environment is usually loud.
