General certification requirements include BLS and ARRT. The department has a total of 4 MRI scanners. The agency will staff 2 scanners, with a mobile unit available. No need to float or cover any other areas. Common types of imaging include musculoskeletal imaging, basic neuro, abdominal/pelvis, radiation oncology, and breast imaging. The technologist will work with pacemaker and anesthesia patients, as well as ICU and NICU patients. The average number of scans performed is approximately 30 per day due to longer protocols. The department uses PACS systems, specifically McKesson or Changed Health Care Meditech. Siemens equipment is currently used, with plans to obtain a Philips scanner. A full-time supervisor is available. Senior techs may be scheduled in the absence of a lead tech. The department will be hiring Registered Radiology Assistants soon. Radiologists are in-house during daytime hours, with most MRI readings done remotely. Starting IVs is a required skill for this position. Shifts typically follow a 4-10 schedule format. Weekend work occurs only for those hired for weekend shifts. The weekend volume includes 10-14 inpatients and 4-8 outpatients per day. Typically, only outpatients without contrast are scheduled on weekends. Holiday work may be required based on shift rotation. No on-call or standby requirements exist, although volunteering is an option if short-staffed. Scrubs must be black, paired with a black or gray jacket; no fleece is allowed. 1-2 weeks of unit/department specific orientation will be conducted. Charting is done using MEDITECH - 6.1.
