The Orthopedic Technician will provide support through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication. Maintains all applicable KHI Policies and Procedures. Key Responsibilities Escorts patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam including vital signs, history, and reason for seeking care Cross trains in data entry, balancing of accounts, charges fees and collect payments due. Schedules/confirms appointments Maintains and facilitates communication between patients, family and clinical staff. Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider Maintains work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations Performs CLIA waived lab tests and obtains specimens Performs proficiency testing and runs controls for waived tests May perform venipuncture Participates in division meetings Responsible for patient care under the direct supervision (in the office suite or exam room) of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner. Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider. Maintain work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations. Participate in clinical division meetings. Applies, adjusts and removes casts, splints, immobilization devices and traction Measures and fits patients for braces and other orthopedic devices Required Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Certification: BLS through the American Heart Association Registered Orthopedic Technologist Certification (due within 6 months of hire) Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card Medical Assistant must meet one of the following criteria: Has attended a medical assistant training program accredited by one of the following: 1. The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools; 2. If your Medical Assistant program was not accredited by one of the above agencies, you will need to have a Medical Assistant Certification issued by one of the following. If needed, we will assist you in obtaining a CCMA certification. National Healthcareer Association: CCMA American Medical Technologist: RMA American Association of Medical Assistants: AAMA National Center for Competency Testing: NCMA American Medical Certification Association: CMAC 3. Has completed a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with others Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks Ability to maintain attention to detail Knowledge of and ability to use computer hardware and software applications Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol Knowledge of and ability to implement direct care, newborn through geriatric Knowledge of and ability to use basic medical terminology Preferences Experience: One to two years; experience as a medical assistant or LPN in a clinical outpatient setting Special Position Requirements Exposure Categories: Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues Other potential hazard(s): possible exposure to chemical, biological and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals Work Requirements Must be able to distinguish appropriate colors Incumbent must be capable of consistently reaching and/or working above and below shoulder level, lifting up to 50 pounds Capable of walking or being on feet 90% of time per day with frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, standing Capable of sitting at desk 10% of the time per day; communicating using telephone
