Position Summary:

The Director of Development is a key leadership role responsible for advancing the museum's philanthropic goals. Reporting to the Managing Director of Philanthropy and working closely with the Senior Charitable Giving Advisor, the Director oversees annual giving, operations, and a comprehensive membership program. This position plays a critical part in ensuring the financial sustainability of the museum while deepening relationships with donors, members, and community stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Annual Fundraising Strategy Develop and execute annual fundraising plans aligned with organizational priorities. Collaborate with the Managing Director of Philanthropy and Senior Charitable Giving Advisor on major gift cultivation and solicitation. Support special campaigns and long-term fundraising initiatives, including capital and planned giving. Membership Development & Engagement

Lead the strategy and management of the museum's membership program, including acquisition, renewal, and upgrade campaigns. Collaborate with marketing and visitor experience teams to promote membership as a key community and revenue-building tool. Design and deliver compelling member benefits, communications, and exclusive engagement opportunities. Donor & Member Stewardship

Collaborate with and/or manage staff responsible for donor and member recognition programs, communications, and events. Collaborate to ensure personalized stewardship that enhances donor and member retention and satisfaction. Communicate programmatic and institutional impact through well-crafted proposals, reports, and storytelling. Leadership & Collaboration

Serve as a senior member of the development team and collaborate across departments to support integrated fundraising and engagement strategies. Supervise membership and operations staff, interns, and volunteers. Represent the museum at public events and act as a key ambassador to the broader community. Development Operations

Ensure data team maintains accurate donor and member records and track fundraising performance using Altru. Ensure data team creates timely reports, dashboards, and analysis of fundraising and membership metrics. Uphold best practices and ethical standards in fundraising and donor relations. Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree required; CFRE preferred. 5+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising, including annual giving and membership program management. Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities. Passion for arts, culture, and history. Familiarity with donor databases (e.g., Altru, Raiser's Edge) is preferred.
