Responsible for supporting the interdisciplinary team by assisting Care Coordination with the admission process. Verifies and interprets insurance benefits for all potential patient admissions to the unit and communicates pertinent information accordingly. Assists with insurance authorizations as appropriate for all potential patient admissions. Works closely with payers to expedite patient admissions process. Monitors and communicates incoming referrals through Careport/NaviHealth and other applications when appropriate. Performs a variety of clerical duties, admitting patients within the electronic system, scheduling/coordinating transfers within department and with other departments, reporting pertinent information to leadership and responding to inquiries and requests for information.

Uses expert knowledge of insurance rules and regulations to verify, interpret and communicate insurance eligibility and benefits to patients and other appropriate personnel. Ensure that the appropriate insurance payer order is established in the patient record. Works collaboratively with Admissions Coordinators to assist with insurance authorization from managed care payers for potential patient admissions to unit. Process includes initiating authorization, communicating with insurance case managers, providing requested clinical documentation, receiving authorization information, and communicating authorization to admissions coordinators. Responsibilities also include oversight and coordination of additional requests for clinical information, physician peer to peer follow ups, etc. to expedite the admissions process Demonstrates knowledge of and monitors incoming referrals through Careport/NaviHealth and other applications when appropriate, then communicates any new referral immediately and timely to the Admission Coordinators. Works collaboratively with Admission Coordinators on marketing strategies to increase reach and engagement of potential admissions. Maintaining/ordering marketing supplies. Completes tours of the unit to patients/families, referral sources and others. Demonstrates completion of documentation requirements in the patients' medical record and adheres to organizational policies and procedures, regulatory accrediting body requirements Working collaboratively with Admission Coordinators to handle a high volume of inbound and outbound calls Collaborates with Transition Coordinator to complete post discharge follow up calls to ensure adequacy and effective of patient's discharge plan Serves as back up to Transition Coordinator and performs patient survey distribution on the morning of the patient discharge. Must perform a variety of clerical/receptionist duties, admitting patients within the electronic system, scheduling/coordinating transfers within department and with other departments, reporting pertinent information to leadership and responding to inquiries and requests for information while maintaining confidentiality and privacy, adheres to HIPAA standards Performs miscellaneous duties/assignments as assigned to support the essential functions of the Care Coordination department. Experience Preferred: - One-year of experience in an acute inpatient rehabilitation, hospital, or physician office setting, with an emphasis on verifying insurance eligibility and benefit interpretation, obtaining authorization/referral and/or pre-certification for services - One-year of experience in Patient Access or Patient Financial Services position
Certification Preferred: - Certification of medical terminology.
