Job Title: Custodian

Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Maintenance and Facilities

Job Summary: The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the facility, ensuring a safe, pleasant, neat environment for staff, students, and visitors. This role involves both day and evening shift responsibilities and may include minor maintenance tasks.

Day Shift Responsibilities:

1. Maintain grounds as directed by the supervisor, including sweeping and light landscaping tasks.

2. Water flowers and perform occasional weeding to ensure a visually appealing environment.

3. Perform minor maintenance work as needed, such as assembling furniture and changing light bulbs.

4. Unlock the building and secure the building as needed.

5. Check mechanical equipment.

6. Clean and maintain assigned area(s).

7. Deliver supplies as requested by principal or office personnel

8. Assistant unloading of delivery trucks.

9. Raise and lower the flag as needed.

10. Maintain building marquee.

11. Assist in the decoration of multi-purpose rooms and stage areas for school functions. 12. Paints as directed by supervisors.

13. Assist the Director of Maintenance & Facilities as requested.

14. Assist in emergencies.

15. Maintain supplies and workroom.

16. Maintain soda and sanitary napkin machines.

17. Remove snow and ice as needed (with the support of the maintenance team). 18. Wash windows, mirrors, etc., as needed.

19. Assist food service employees as needed.

20. Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

Evening Shift Responsibilities:

1. Paint areas as directed by the supervisor, ensuring that the facility remains in good condition.

2. Assist with setting up and dismantling equipment for events or activities. 3. Ensure the facility is secure by locking doors and windows as needed. 4. Clean and maintain assigned areas.

5. Secure building and grounds.

6. Set up evening events and assist in unloading delivery trucks.

7. Check heating and cooling systems for proper function as directed by the supervisor. 8. Take down the flag where applicable.

9. Wash windows, mirrors, etc. as needed.

10. Perform minor maintenance work as needed.

11. Remove snow and ice as needed (with the support of the maintenance team). 12. Assist students, teachers, and principal(s) as needed.

13. Assist the Director of Maintenance and Facilities as needed.

14. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

General Responsibilities:

• Perform routine cleaning tasks, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and trash removal.

• Maintain and replenish cleaning supplies and equipment as necessary. • Report any maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor promptly.

• Comply with safety guidelines and maintain a safe work environment. Qualifications:

• Previous custodial or maintenance experience preferred.

• Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.

• Knowledge of safe cleaning practices and the use of cleaning equipment. • Basic maintenance skills, including light carpentry and painting.

• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness.

• Excellent time management skills.

Terms of Employment:

• Position is full-time, 8 hours per day.

• Employment is year-round, consisting of 12 months per year.
