Must-Have: Knowledge of radiation therapy procedures and equipment operation. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate. Analytical skills to provide accurate care instructions.
Description: Responsible for reviewing patients' medical charts for prescriptions and treatment protocols. Confer with physicians as necessary to clarify treatment orders. Gather information on new patients, including previous diagnostic studies. Assist in patient simulation and localization procedures. Schedule diagnostic exams and revise treatment plans with physicians. Obtain tumor localization films and place necessary markings on patients. Fabricate immobilization devices and assemble treatment charts. Explain procedures to patients to alleviate fears and encourage cooperation. Inform patients of potential treatment reactions and advise on care for irradiated areas. Utilize a computer system to enter charges for treatments rendered. Position patients accurately under treatment equipment. Maintain inventory of supplies to ensure availability. Observe patients during procedures to ensure proper positioning. Report any changes in patients' conditions to appropriate personnel. Fabricate custom treatment devices for individual patients. Perform quality control tests on treatment equipment and report results. Engage in a new department with training provided for specific equipment. Participate in the establishment of operational protocols and procedures.
