Job Overview:

This is a full-time contract assignment in a correctional healthcare environment. The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct and supervisory nursing care for incarcerated individuals, ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate treatment within a secure facility. The role requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and a commitment to maintaining both patient care standards and correctional security.

Responsibilities:

Provide comprehensive nursing care in accordance with state licensure and correctional healthcare policies. Assist providers during examinations, treatments, and sick call visits. Dispense, administer, and document medication distribution, including pill call. Perform patient assessments, triage illnesses and injuries, and coordinate referrals to higher-level care when necessary. Supervise and support LVN/LPN staff and unlicensed medical personnel. Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in compliance with standards. Monitor inmate hospitalizations and assist with early releases as directed. Respond to medical emergencies and perform rescue functions in crises or disasters. Conduct safety checks of medical units and secure medical supplies. Provide health counseling and education to inmates/residents as required. Requirements:

Must reside more than 70 miles from the facility (no local applicants). Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience. Active, unrestricted New Mexico RN license. Active BLS certification (AHA preferred). Must be able to start within 2 weeks of offer. Open availability; no RTO or scheduling restrictions allowed. Must not have worked at the same facility in the past 6 months. Must not be on any industry DNU list. U.S. Citizenship and Social Security card required for facility clearance. Preferred:

Prior correctional or behavioral health nursing experience. Strong leadership and supervisory skills. Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress, secure environments.
