Medical Assistant Certifications / Qualifications: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
or
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
- must hold active certification from an accredited organization (e.g., AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT, etc.) CPR certification
from any recognized organization High school diploma or equivalent At least 1 year of experience in a medical office setting Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures Skilled in taking vitals, administering injections, and performing blood draws Strong time management and multitasking abilities Ability to follow clinical orders and maintain safety and confidentiality standards Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Medical Assistant Responsibilities: Room and prepare patients for exams and assist providers with examinations and minor procedures Obtain and document patient health histories and vital signs Administer medications and perform treatments as directed by providers Collect biological samples and conduct basic in-house lab tests Accurately document assessments, medications, treatments, and test results in the EHR Manage non-urgent patient calls and provide clinical guidance as directed Schedule patient procedures and assist with referrals and authorizations Process prescription refills using phone, fax, or e-prescribe per provider instructions Promote patient wellness through education and reinforcing provider instructions Follow OSHA safety guidelines and maintain infection control and confidentiality policies
