Medical Assistant
Position Summary The Medical Assistant supports physicians, nurses, and patients by providing high-quality ambulatory medical care services. This role plays a critical part in ensuring efficient patient flow, assisting with procedures, and delivering compassionate care in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manage clinic patient flow, including notifying physicians of patient arrivals and room assignments. Escort and assist patients in the exam room in a professional and courteous manner. Record and document vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, and pulse oximetry as needed) using both manual equipment and Welch Allyn Spot devices. Enter results accurately into the electronic medical record in a timely fashion. Assist physicians during examinations and procedures, with a strong preference for candidates who have procedural experience; urology experience is highly desirable. Obtain and document patient medical history when applicable per department guidelines. Perform a variety of diagnostic, testing, and screening procedures. Clearly explain testing procedures to patients to ensure comfort and understanding. Accurately calculate medication dosages and demonstrate annual competency on written medication exams, as applicable. Administer medications via approved routes (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal, inhalation, rectal, topical) after demonstrating competency to the clinic RN annually, if applicable. Minimum Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program required. Licensure/Certification
Medical Assistant certification strongly preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Experience
2–5 years of continuous clinical experience required. Prior procedural experience strongly preferred. Urology experience is a plus. Physical Requirements
Frequently walk, bend, twist, and reach above the shoulders in a clinical setting. Occasionally lift or carry, and frequently push or pull, up to 20 lbs. as part of the role. Regularly exposed to healthcare environments requiring appropriate PPE. Manual dexterity required to operate a computer, calculator, copier, and other office/clinical equipment.
