Medical Support Assistant

STGi is currently seeking a Medical Support Assistant to provide services at our Community Based Outpatient Clinic. The general duty of the Medical Support Assistant is to provide clerical and administrative support for the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). Essential functions include managing the schedules and treatment of CBOC patients, maintaining electronic logs/files in conjunction with the consult/appointment process, and greeting and checking in patients, updating records as necessary. The role also involves coordinating patients' schedules and clinic flow, performing clerical and administrative functions to maintain patient data, scheduling new and established patient appointments, and tracking and facilitating completion of encounters and consults. Additionally, the Medical Support Assistant participates in PACT team huddles and team meetings to manage and plan patient care, monitors pre-appointment requirements to assure readiness for patient visit/procedure, manages electronic wait lists to verify and validate accuracy, and performs administrative follow-up actions. The position requires maintaining alertness to patients requiring immediate treatment, extending a high degree of customer service, conducting initial screen of patients, verifying that required appropriate individuals have completed CBOC/VA paperwork, scheduling and notifying patients of follow-up appointments/referrals, assisting in the coordination of supplies/equipment, maintaining the Veteran Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VISTA) clinic reminder tracking system, ensuring that all required reports are completed accurately, acting as a liaison between contractor and the VAMC, participating in the ongoing Performance Improvement Program, complying with all federal, state, local, Joint Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Veteran Affairs, STG and subcontractor safety and operational regulations, directives, and standards, and maintaining confidentiality of all information and support patients' privacy, rights, and safety. Required Skills Required experience and skills include: sufficient front office experience, knowledge of skills to perform all secretarial/clerical support tasks, knowledge of basic methods and procedures and complex methods for coordinating and scheduling clinical care, 1-3 years of current medical and clerical experience working in a similar environment, skill and precision in use of the tools, materials and equipment, knowledge of age-specific customer service techniques, knowledge of specialized terminology associated with the work in the facility, in-depth knowledge of the terminology used in Primary care practice, ability to follow orders and works under close supervision, while demonstrating initiative and independence, ability to provide educational material to patients and/or families regarding proper health care activities, knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, Electronic Medical Records and computer maneuverability, and high school diploma or GED. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/ Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN) is also required. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Required to respond to any medical emergency within the clinic, where a fast walk or jog may be necessary to provide assistance.
