PRIMARY PURPOSE: Ensure the grounds of all district campuses and athletic fields are maintained in a safe and attractive condition. Maintain and repair all small engine equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification High School Diploma or G.E.D. Valid Texas Driver's License A driving record that meets the requirements of the district's insurance carrier.
Experience Three (3) years of experience as a groundskeeper preferred Knowledge of small engine repair
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Grounds Maintenance and Landscaping
Maintain and care for school grounds. Prepare seeding or transplanting beds by cultivating the soil and adding fertilizer if needed. Plant seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings, and shrubbery so that the resulting growth will produce an attractive appearance. Experiment with different varieties of lawn and flower seeds to determine those best suited to the soil. Prune trees and trim hedges to promote growth and improve appearance. Mow lawns with a power mower. Connect sprinkler equipment and water lawns and flower beds. Inspect flowers, shrubs, and trees for evidence of insects, fungi, and other pests. Shovel snow from sidewalks and driveways and spread sand, salt, or ashes to prevent slipping. Collects and disposes of leaves and refuse. Assume administration supervisory responsibilities for campus-level grounds crews and projects as assigned by the Grounds Department Head. Safety
Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures. Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.

Posture : Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
Motion : Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting : Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment : Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical (herbicides and fertilizer) and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district-wide travel
Mental Demands : Maintain emotional control under stress.
