Position Overview:
The May Street Elementary Student Support and PBIS Instructional Assistant will provide support to students, families and building staff to ensure student success and safety, to assist in meeting the District's long range vision for student success, with a focus on serving our under-served student populations. The PBIS duties will include assisting in the instruction and supervision of students. Applicants should demonstrate flexibility, patience, and a belief that every student can grow.
Employees in this classification do not supervise others.
Essential Job Functions:
Advises
parents and/or legal guardians of student progress and provide feedback to student, parents, staff and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, concerns, etc. Monitors
student activities (i.e., classroom, lunch, school grounds, events, etc.) Reinforce
and re-teach Student Code-of-Conduct and Attendance, Academic and Discipline Procedures, as needed May assist
teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum. Facilitate
family engagement activities and involvement in the academic life of middle school. Collaborates
with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes and developing solutions. Works
with school counselors and administration to serve as a community resource for prevention services and other community services available to students/parents/legal guardians. Works
to support an increase in the on-track-to-graduate rate of students. Maintains
regular and predictable attendance to meet the needs of the students and the expectations of the District. Cultivates
and models a respectful working and learning environment. Reports
incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policies. Other Job Functions:
Assists
other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Participates
in various meetings (e.g. parent conferences, in-service training, site meetings, community meetings, etc.) Serves
as a home/school liaison with parents/guardians/families. Translates
written information, including documents and other forms of communication, as needed. Serves
as an interpreter when requested. Develops partnerships
with community organizations to create opportunities for our underserved learners and families. Other related duties
as assigned. Minimum Qualifications :
Possession of an Associate's Degree/two years of college (72 college credits) or passing grade on the CBEST or a passing score on a rigorous Paraprofessional Assessment test. Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred. Excellent organizational skills. Strong public relations skills. Computer skills. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with district staff, students and parents. Prior experience working in an educational support program, such as an ELL or Migrant Education program, preferred. Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills
to perform instructional activities, communicate with parents, students, staff and community, basic arithmetic calculations, operate standard office equipment, use English in verbal and written form, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling, and perform basic clerical functions. Knowledge
of principles of child development and instructional processes. PBIS systems, management and clerical skills; organization of team meetings. Abilities
to work as part of an instructional team and be willing to be flexible in working with a wide variety of students and tasks; sit and/or stand for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies, rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations. Significant physical abilities include lifting/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity. English/Spanish Bilingual skills helpful. Required testing:
