ASSIGNED TO CONROE SOUTHWEST WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

JOB SUMMARY

The Pump Mechanic performs labor-intensive tasks related to maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant facilities and equipment under the supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Foreman. The Pump Mechanic provides additional maintenance support to other services divisions and assists in other areas as needed. This position is required to be available to respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum one year experience in the repair of water and sewer pumps of various types, motors, plumbing, small engine troubleshooting, general contracting, and pump and motor electrical preferred.

Minimum one year experience in wastewater treatment plant maintenance preferred.

Experience working for a municipality preferred.

Special Requirements:

Class "C" Wastewater license is preferred.

Valid Texas Class "B" commercial driver's license preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Intermediate ability to repair and diagnose problems with water pumps, sewage pumps, pump and motor electrical, floats and switches.

Ability to understand and abide by City of Conroe and departmental policies and procedures.

Must be able to work on-call duty and respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.

Able to climb in and out of confined areas and have the ability to climb heights up to or greater than 100 feet.

Must be able to lift weights of 50 pounds or up to 100 pounds with assistance.

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

Ability to use all tools to accomplish the job in an efficient manner.

Ability to adapt to new technology, new methods and changing conditions.

Ability to stand, stoop, kneel or sit for long periods of time.

Must possess excellent manual dexterity and complete understanding of hand tools and the application of many types of fittings and repair accessories.

Must be capable of reading, writing and speaking English.

Must be able to communicate using a two-way radio.

Basic knowledge of computer software and programs.

Ability to operate light construction equipment, bucket truck, tools and various types of equipment.

Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a team environment and with minimal supervision.

Ability to work as many hours needed to get the work assigned completed.

Ability to understand engineer/supervisor drawings.

Professional attitude, tact and courtesy necessary to deal with internal and external customers.

Knowledge of proper construction techniques.

Understanding electrical systems.

Understanding of plumbing systems.

Skills working with small engine troubleshooting/repair.

Skills related to general contracting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is medium and requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
