Permit Specialist
ABOUT THIS POSITION:

$50,398.40 - 61,755.20
WORK LOCATION:
322 N Mason Street, 322 N. Mason St, Apex, NC 27502 USA
SCHEDULE:
Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
POSTING CLOSING DATE:

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
Performs intermediate tasks with some independence and variety of work. The incumbent provides significant assistance to the public and other Town departments with permitting requirements for the Building Permits and Inspections department. Performs difficult clerical and technical work in the processing of residential and commercial permit applications including integration of two unrelated software applications for plan review and permit creation. Calculates permit fees (including fees collected for other departments), receipts monies, and issues permits. Schedules inspections for Permits, Planning and Infrastructure departments. Maintains digital files archives. Generates monthly financial/building reports for Administration, Finance, Electrical and Development departments, and other government/public entities.
This position reports to the Plans and Permits Supervisor.
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS: Process permit applications and prepare for plan review: receipt fees, scan plans & paperwork. Coordinates with Planning department for commercial permit approval. Use two non-integrated software systems for plan review and permit creation/issuance receipt of monies. Process reviewed plans, notify clients of plan acceptance/denial, calculate permit fees. Assist the public and other Town departments with permitting requirements/questions. Schedule inspections including inspections for Planning, Infrastructure and Water Resources departments. Process solar applications (100% online submittals with 2-day turnaround), notify clients of acceptance/denial, issue permits. Issue residential and commercial certificates of occupancy; prepare completed project files for digital archive. Generate monthly and quarterly building/financial reports for Administration, Development, Electrical and Finance departments. Test service packs/update/new software systems. Update form/checklists. Update Building Permits & Inspections webpage. Balance monies collected, run reports-forward to Finance. Train temporary employees and coworkers on software. Order supplies for Permits department. Maintain digital archives of completed projects. Maintain database of contractors for department. Works closely with Department Director and Assistant Director (if applicable) in purchasing and procurement of supplies and materials for the department; handles contract files for a variety of projects; tracks payments and dues. May perform the reconciliation function for purchasing cards (P-card) receipts. Handles public requests for services or information with limited review based on program and policy knowledge; often resolves problems or complaints without management's assistance. Plans, coordinates, and purchases items for special events and meetings for the department. Carries responsibilities for department-specific programs, conducting research, making appropriate determinations, and maintaining related program files. May assist department management with any annual audits. Handles public requests for services or information; researches and resolves problems or complaints. Serves as backup to other professional and administrative staff as needed. Performs related duties as required.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
High School Diploma or GED and minimal (less than one year) or related experience.
