Exciting leadership opportunity to manage a talented team of construction underwriters, blending strategic vision, strong leadership, and deep technical expertise to drive meaningful impact across the portfolio. As Senior Underwriting Manager, you will guide and develop this high-performing group, foster trusted relationships internally and with brokers and partners, and make critical underwriting decisions that shape our portfolio’s longer-term success. This role focuses on building upon the team’s achievements, cultivating a culture of excellence, and delivering consistent and predictable growth in a fast-evolving insurance industry.
Responsibilities
Drive a culture of underwriting excellence across the entire portfolio.
Lead change initiatives within the team.
Maintain a visible external profile and build excellent relationships with external brokers, agents, partners, and stakeholders, leveraging these relationships to help the team achieve their goals and expand their networks.
Act as a point of escalation/referral on particularly tricky or novel underwriting decisions.
Uphold and exemplify Liberty's value proposition across the business and market.
Cover for the manager when required.
Be accountable for the performance of a portfolio (or part thereof) within a sub-segment of business underwritten by the team.
Handle specific technical responsibilities related to planning, portfolio management, marketing, and product development, which may differ across different parts of GRS.
Continue underwriting specific policies and delivering the work of an Underwriter as needed.
Qualifications
Degree in Business or equivalent typically required.
A minimum of 10 years of progressive underwriting experience, including at least 2 years of proven underwriting management experience, preferred.
CRIS, CPCU, or other professional insurance designations preferred.
Proven analytical ability to evaluate high-impact underwriting risks within scope of responsibility.
Ability to communicate complex analyses and information effectively.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for dealing with internal and external partners.
