NOW OFFERING LATERAL HIRE OPPORTUNITY AND ADDITIONAL PAY FOR TCOLE CERTIFICATION!
Duties include receiving and handling emergency service calls from the public, determining the nature and location of emergencies, and ensuring proper radio frequencies for dispatch. The role involves maintaining awareness of up to or exceeding 50 emergency response units, operating computer systems and consoles, entering and retrieving data, preparing incident reports, answering non-emergency calls, and coordinating responses with other city departments and law enforcement agencies. Additional responsibilities include handling after-hour service calls for departments such as Animal Control, Water Utilities, Traffic and Transportation/Streets, and Victim Services.
Work schedules include 8 or 12-hour shifts covering a 24-hour period, including weekends and some holidays. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, two years of relevant experience, and preferred experience with Computer Aided Dispatch, 911, or similar police-related systems. Candidates must be able to pass an assessment on Critical Personnel Selection Software upon request, and obtain within a specified timeframe a TCOLE telecommunications proficiency certificate and state licensure.
This position involves access to sensitive Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS), necessitating a thorough background check. Candidates will be subject to a polygraph exam and criminal history check. In accordance with CJIS requirements, applicants must not have any adult or juvenile criminal convictions above a Class B misdemeanor or any such misdemeanor within the past 10 years; other convictions may be considered.
