Job Summary This laborer plays a crucial role in the recycling and waste management industry. Their primary responsibility is to assist in the operations of a scrapyard, ensuring that materials are efficiently collected, processed, separated and prepared for recycling or disposal.

Key Responsibilities: Material Collection:

Assist in the collection of scrap metals such from various sources, including customers, suppliers, and incoming deliveries. Sorting and Processing:

Sort and categorize materials based on type and quality, separating recyclable materials from non-recyclables. Operate machinery and equipment for processing and baling materials. Quality Control:

Conduct quality checks on materials to ensure they meet established standards and are free from contaminants. Remove any hazardous or non-recyclable items. Safety Compliance:

Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the safe operation of machinery. Maintenance:

Assist in the maintenance and cleaning of the scrapyard equipment and facilities, reporting any issues or malfunctions to the supervisor. Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate records of materials received, processed, and shipped. Ensure proper documentation of transactions. Customer Service:

Provide courteous and helpful service to customers and suppliers who visit the scrapyard. Address their inquiries and assist with unloading and loading materials. Environmental Compliance:

Follow environmental regulations and best practices to minimize the impact of the scrapyard's operations on the environment.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in a scrapyard, recycling center, or similar environment is a plus but not always required. Ability to lift heavy objects, up to 49 pounds, and work in various weather conditions. Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand tools. Strong attention to safety protocols and the ability to follow guidelines. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Reliable and punctual work ethic. Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 49 pounds). Standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods. Exposure to varying weather conditions. Working Conditions:

The job may require working outdoors in all weather conditions. The work environment may be noisy and dusty. Salary and Benefits:

Salary is $15/hour to start--pay increases will be earned with good attendance and performance. Benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off may be offered.
