Description
The Massachusetts State Lottery Commission (MSLC) is seeking a highly motivated, entry-level Data Analyst to join our Data Analytics team. The team is composed of report developers, database administrators, business analysts, and project managers. We are looking for someone passionate about data, statistical analysis, and problem-solving.
In this role, you will support critical business decision-making by transforming raw data into actionable insights. You will work closely with senior analysts and key stakeholders to access, clean, analyze, and report on data from multiple systems. The primary tools and platforms used at MSLC include DB2, SQL, Tableau, and SAP BusinessObjects (BO). Your work will help drive data-informed decisions across all lottery operations by supporting the development of predictive models, producing meaningful reports, and ensuring high data quality. A solid foundation in statistics and data interpretation is essential for success in this role.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Write and optimize SQL queries to extract, manipulate, and analyze data
Conduct statistical analyses to identify trends, correlations, and patterns across MSLC departments
Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and data visualizations
Support ad hoc data investigations and provide actionable insights to departments such as Compliance, Security, Marketing, Finance, and Executive Leadership.
Validate data integrity and perform quality assurance of data pipelines and reporting logic
Communicate analytical findings clearly through presentations, reports, and visualizations
Maintain reports developed in SAP Business Objects
Demonstrate the ability to work both independently and effectively in a remote environment
Apply creative, outside-the-box thinking to analytical problems
Show a strong desire to learn new skills and technologies
Perform other duties, as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, related field of study, or equivalent work experience
12 years of experience in data analysis, analytics, or software development
Proficiency in SQL and Java
Experience in quality assurance or data validation
Experience working with DB2 or other relational databases
Familiarity with reporting and dashboard tools such as Tableau or SAP BO
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective written and verbal communication
Familiarity with public sector or gaming-based systems is desirable
Certifications such as Oracle Certified Java Associate/Professional or IBM DB2/Data Engineering certification are a plus
Experience with statistical analysis tools (e.g., Python, R) is a bonus, but not required
