JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to assist in the maintenance of city landscaping and grounds. Job duties consist of related refuse maintenance duties. Successful performance helps ensure the provision of attractive municipal grounds. FLSA status is Non-Exempt.
This position starts as an entry-level position in the Urban Management department and has some growth opportunity. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this classification. GROUNDS MAINTENANCE DUTIES (65%) Rakes and cleans grounds. Trims, edges, and weeds. Edges curbs and sidewalks. Participates in greenhouse plant production. Lays sods; installs plans. Removes, replaces, and prunes trees. Installs and maintains site irrigation systems. Applies fertilizer, insecticides, and pesticides. Cleans culverts, drains, and ditches. Maintains landscaping and installs plants and mulch. Breaks up beaver dams. Operates a variety of construction equipment. Installs seasonal lighting and decorations.
EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE DUTIES (10%) Performs pre- and post-trip equipment inspections. Cleans equipment interior and exterior. Performs minor maintenance and repair duties; checks and adds fluid. Reports major repair needs to supervisor.
OTHER RELATED DUTIES (25%) Builds and installs decorative displays. Cleans and organizes the office. Communicates and interacts with the public. Assists in the removal of dead animals from the right-of-way. Assists other departments as needed. Performs other duties as assigned or needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
M ust be at least eighteen (18) years of age. M ust be able to lift fifty (50) pounds repeatedly. O ne (1) year of experience in performing heavy manual labor preferred.
