Hartford Fire Insurance Company in Hartford, CT, has the following opening for a Staff Software Engineer. Summary of duties: Perform hands-on development using Java/J2EE, React, XML, HTML, JavaScript, JSON, Mobile frameworks including Bootstrap, Oracle with SQL Knowledge, Restful Web Services, as well as integration components such as MQ, DataPower, and WMB. Perform hands-on development in frameworks like Agency Portal, Connect5, and Spring Boot Leverage tools such as JBoss, Container technologies such as OpenShift, GitHub, Jenkins, Nexus, Rally, SonarQube as part of the SDLC and CI/CD processes. Participate as active agile team member to help drive feature refinement, user story completion, code review, etc. Oversee technical deliverables through the DevOps pipeline, including acting as the point of contact for all technical and software issues; be responsible for the quality and completeness or detailed technical specifications, solution designs, and code reviews as well as adherence to nonfunctional requirements. Lead performance test execution to identify potential application performance bottlenecks and potential resolution Proactively address technical issues and risks that could impact project schedule and/or integrity of the application environment. Identify and promote opportunities to build reusable strategic components and reduce over-customization. Work closely with stakeholders to design and document solutions that align with the business needs and consistent with the architectural vision, ensuring proper application of design patterns, frameworks, and services to improve consistency and reduce complexity. Research and evaluate solutions and recommend/estimate/develop/test the most efficient and cost-effective solution to meet business requirements that conforms to The Hartford's development standards. Mentor and train project team members to enforce development guidelines and best practices. Provide thought leadership to drive continuous improvement, pragmatic deliberations and root cause problem solving; and, able to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities. Qualifications: Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field and 5 years of progressive, post baccalaureate experience in the job offered or in a related occupation. In addition, position requires 3 years of experience in the following skills: Agency Portal and Connect5 framework; Developing web-based Java/J2EE applications; Implementing Web Services and APIs (SOAP and Rest); Spring Boot; Containerization technologies such as OpenShift; Object Oriented Design, Relational Databased Design, and RESTful Service Design; Relational database technologies such as Oracle; Application server such as JBoss; Continuous integration and DevOps methodologies leveraging tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, uDeploy, Rally, SonarQube, and CheckMarx; and Agile methodology (Scrum, SAFE).
