Job Summary: The School Cafeteria Worker plays a vital role in providing nutritious meals to students in a safe and welcoming environment. This position involves food preparation, serving, and maintaining cleanliness in the cafeteria while adhering to health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation:
Assist in the preparation of meals, including washing, chopping, and cooking food items as directed. Serving Meals:
Serve meals to students and staff, ensuring portion control and presentation. Dish Room:
Washing dishes is a requirement and will involve working around industrial kitchen cleaning equipment and hot water. Customer Service:
Interact positively with students and staff, answering questions and ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Cleanliness and Sanitation:
Maintain a clean and organized work area, including washing dishes, cleaning countertops, and ensuring food safety standards are met. Inventory Management:
Assist in inventory control, including receiving deliveries and monitoring stock levels. Compliance:
Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper food handling and sanitation practices. Team Collaboration:
Work effectively with team members and assist in training new staff as needed. Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in food service or cafeteria work is required. Knowledge of food safety practices and regulations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks. Physical ability to lift and carry items, stand for long periods, and perform manual tasks. Working Conditions:
Typically works in a school cafeteria environment. May require standing for extended periods and performing physical tasks.
