JOB TITLE: Seasonal Laborer DEPARTMENT: Golf LOCATION: Red Tail Run Golf Course CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time, Non-Exempt POSITION SUMMARY In this Decatur Park District position, the Laborer will report to the Golf Course Superintendent, the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and the Golf Manager and will maintain the optimal playing conditions of all golf course turf and grounds by performing essential tasks the supervisor assigns.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Operates tractor to till, cultivate, and grade new turf areas, and to mow rough and fairway areas at designated cut, exercising care not to injure turf or shrubs. Operates hand or power mower to cut turf on green and tee areas. Operates power equipment to effectively rake and maintain sand bunkers. Operates many small power tools including but not limited to: string trimmers, portable leaf blowers, hand saws, drills, and any other tools that may be necessary to complete certain tasks assigned by supervisor. Connects hose and sprinkler systems at designated points on course to irrigate turf. Digs and rakes ground to prepare new greens, grades and cleans traps, and repairs roadbeds. Performs all aspects of landscaping and landscape construction including but not limited to: construction of new plant beds, installation of walkways/pathways, construction of small, on course shelters (i.e. pavilions and other shelters) and any other landscape work the supervisors deems necessary and assigns. Plants and trims trees and shrubs. Use of chainsaws and other cutting methods determined by supervisor to trim trees and shrubs. Performs required maintenance on all equipment such as greasing, oil changes, blade sharpening, cleaning of radiators and air filters and any other required maintenance the supervisors deems necessary and assigns. Repair benches, tables, and any other equipment as instructed by supervisor. Be courteous and friendly to customers at all times, treat complaints with the utmost attention. Know and observe golf's rules of play. Other duties may be assigned. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

Pick up trash at assigned facilities Fill drink stations on the golf course Keeps shops swept and orderly.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS/JOB EXPECTATIONS

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

At minimum, a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Illinois drivers license

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Strong knowledge of and the ability to maintain greens, tees and fairways to an acceptable standard of golf play Basis knowledge of operating tractors and other golf course equipment Strong knowledge of seeding and maintaining turf on golf courses Strong knowledge of planting, cultivating, pruning and caring for plants, shrubs and trees Basic knowledge of irrigation watering systems Good knowledge of the game of golf Ability to cooperate with and interpret Park District philosophies in relation to governmental, public and private groups and agencies and to the general public Strong knowledge of pertinent safety precautions Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other supervisors and subordinate employees Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees, patrons, community groups and other units of local government. Ability to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction of the Superintendent of Golf Course Maintenance and the Golf Manager Capacity to utilize effective time management skills and be able to work under the stress of multiple deadlines, requests from other departments and interruptions with accuracy Ability to work in a team atmosphere, promoting positive work relationships with both internal and external customers Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work Ability to communicate effectively with fellow staff and the public both orally and in writing Capacity to be self-motivated and achieve goals with minimal supervision or direction Ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, write simple correspondence and present information to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

HOURS

Monday through Sunday, 30-40 hours a week, with work hours designated by the Superintendent of Golf Course Maintenance Occasional overtime, night, weekend and holiday scheduling may be required Employee is considered to be on duty whenever the need exists Occasional evening and weekend hours and being on call is required as needed

General work area is out of doors and employee is exposed to extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, snow and ice. Infrequent exposure to cleaning materials and office supplies (e.g., copier toner) Exposure to chronic infectious disease while performing routine first aid or emergency procedures Protective clothing and equipment is required as it pertains to the particular job duty:
