JOB SUMMARY

JOB SUMMARY A utility locator is responsible for accurately identifying and marking the location of underground utility lines such as power, water and wastewater for excavation work. This job requires a strong understanding of various systems, safety protocols, and proficiency in using specialized equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Locating Underground Utilities:

Correctly, safely, and efficiently locates underground utilities, including power, water, reclaimed water and wastewater lines. Thoroughly searches for underground utilities in a designated area, accurately marking the location to standardized color codes and completing the necessary documentation. Performs underground utility locates using specialized equipment and tools. Identifies and marks the location of underground utility lines on job sites to prevent line strikes or service interruptions. Able to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities

Documentation and Reporting

Maintains accurate and precise records of all underground utility locates performed. Provides SMTXU or Engineering with detailed reports of utility markings and coordinates. Communicates with team members and clients regarding utility line locates to ensure project objectives are met.

Miscellaneous

Adheres to safety protocols and procedures at all times. Participates in safety meetings and ongoing training programs. Provides after-hours locating services for emergency needs. Displays integrity, teamwork, professionalism, customer experience and innovation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or GED At least one-year previous experience in utility locating or related field Valid driver's license and a safe driving record CORE COMPETENCIES AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Proficiency in using GPS or other location technologies Strong analysis and problem-solving skills Understanding of Utility locating technology, equipment, and procedures Ability to read, understand, and reference locate tickets, as well as maps and prints Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners Computer proficiency

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally. Subject to vision and hearing constantly; standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching and handling frequently; sitting, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, talking and foot controls occasionally.

Working conditions involve occasional exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, vehicle traffic, heavy equipment, open trenches, confined spaces, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases. Utilizes confined space equipment or other personal protective equipment as required.
