Specialist Application Engineer Consumer Business

The Consumer Business Lab has ownership of marquee brands such as ScotchBlue Painter's Tape, Nexcare, Futuro, Filtrete Air Filters, Post-it, and Command Damage Free Hanging Solutions. This position is an integral member of the dynamic Consumer Application Engineering Team and will focus on Home Improvement Portfolios, especially Command and Mounting Solutions. This team is customer facing and is tasked with global training, product demonstration, NPI participation, competitive testing, field evaluation and complaint resolution. This position requires an independent, creative individual who can operate in a changing environment. The Impact You'll Make in this Role As an Application Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by: Managing Application Engineering activities. Works on mapping key processes, identifying gaps and solutions using 3M technologies. Conducting competitive analysis. Contributing with insights, partnering with Industry Experts, leading product field evaluations, developing and delivering customer training, as a team member in New Product Introduction (NPI) projects. Supporting sales and marketing organizations with internal/external training, on-going technical coaching and with proactive sharing of product and application processes know-how. Creating easy to understand demo tools for sales reps and customers to show 3M product benefits and differentiation. This position will require working with customers in various settings, including domestically and internationally, including customer training and trade shows. Authoring Digital and other training materials. Leading and influencing the industry by involvement and leadership in industry associations. Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) Five (5) years of combined experience working in a laboratory and/or technical service/application engineering environment in a private, public, government or military environment Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: Bachelor's degree or higher in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry Successful record of global interaction, excellent technical presentation skills, interpersonal abilities Strong skills in oral and written communications, complex problem identification and solution development Work well in a team environment and able to handle changing project priorities. Experience in tapes and adhesives technologies. Experience with New Product Development (NPI) and/or Engineering working in conjunction with customers and other internal partners (cross-functional teams). Microsoft Office and Minitab or Statistical Analysis tool proficient. Successful track record with working with all levels within the organization, as well as external customer and supplier organizations.
