Senior Software Engineer, Data Governance

CarGurus 16 August 2025 As a Senior Data Governance Engineer at CarGurus, you will play a crucial role in architecting, operationalizing, and optimizing our enterprise data governance framework. You will be responsible for deploying and configuring data governance tools, implementing automated data quality validation workflows, and integrating metadata management platforms. Your work will ensure high standards of data integrity, security, and accessibility across the organization. Responsibilities: Develop and implement a robust data governance framework. Build tools and APIs to automate data quality monitoring and reporting. Advocate for data stewardship and promote accountability for data quality. Build tools and APIs to automate metadata management. Ensure data governance policies comply with relevant laws and regulations (GDPR, CCPA). Develop and maintain data lineage models. Collaborate with stakeholders to establish data governance policies and provide training. Continuously assess and enhance the data governance framework. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data governance processes. Requirements: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or related field (or equivalent experience). 3+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or a related field. Proficiency in Python or similar languages. Experience with data quality management tools (e.g., Monte Carlo, Metaplane). Familiarity with data governance tools (e.g., Alation, Atlan, data.world, Secoda). Knowledge of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.). Proficiency in data modeling, data lineage, and data classification. Familiarity with Snowflake, dbt, and Looker. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and data integration tools (Fivetran, data pipelines). Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Attention to detail and a passion for maintaining high-quality data. Nice to have: Experience with data quality management tools, data governance tools, data modeling, data lineage, and data classification, Snowflake, dbt, and Looker, cloud platforms, and data integration tools.
