QinetiQ US is seeking a hands-on Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support day-to-day EHS activities at our Reston and Lorton, VA facilities. This role will ensure local compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations, support employee engagement in safe work practices, and assist with risk mitigation across office and engineering workspaces. The EHS Specialist will work under the direction of the EHS Manager and partner with local leadership, facilities, and operations teams to implement QinetiQ's safety programs. The role also includes annual travel to TARS program sites across the U.S. to conduct audits, assessments, and support. Responsibilities Support implementation of EHS policies and programs across assigned Virginia sites. Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments; document findings and track corrective actions. Assist with the development and delivery of site-specific training (e.g., emergency response, ergonomics, chemical safety, PPE). Maintain EHS records, inspection logs, training documentation, and SDS inventory. Help coordinate incident response and investigations; track incidents and follow through on corrective actions. Collaborate with Facilities and HR on workspace safety, ergonomics, and new employee onboarding. Conduct annual site EHS assessments at TARS program field locations (e.g., Arizona, New Mexico, Puerto Rico); prepare reports and follow up on action items. Participate in local drills and emergency planning, including first aid coordination and evacuation procedures. Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, VA DEQ, and local regulatory requirements. Support sustainability and environmental initiatives as applicable. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field. 35 years of EHS experience in an office, light manufacturing, or government/defense support setting. Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state/local safety and environmental regulations. Strong organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across functions and employee levels. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Ability to travel regionally (~23 days/month) and conduct 12 week annual trips to remote sites. Must be able to obtain a U.S. government security clearance if required. Preferred Qualifications EHS certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, GSP, CHST, or similar). Familiarity with industrial hygiene principles, ergonomic assessments, or environmental compliance. Experience conducting safety audits or field site visits. Exposure to defense or government contractor environments. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus but not required.
