Community Relations Manager

We are seeking a

Community Relations Manager

who will play a crucial role in fostering positive relationships between the institution and its surrounding communities. The Community Relations Manager will develop and implement strategies to engage with local organizations, businesses, and residents. Duties will include organizing events, managing outreach programs, and facilitating partnerships that benefit both the institution and the community.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Represent the Johns Hopkins Institutions to internal and external stakeholders. Attend community organization meetings and participates in community events, actively engaging community residents and organization members as a representative of Johns Hopkins. Provide summaries of community meetings within 48 hours to their supervisor. Attends an average of 1-2 community meetings and/or events per week as a representative of Johns Hopkins Institutions. Build new and strengthen existing relationships with community and faith-based organizations. Partner with community-based organizations serving targeted community in alignment with Johns Hopkins University and Health System Outreach. Identify key issues affecting the community and engage the Government Affairs Team and other GCE colleagues in identifying necessary resources and solutions. Ensure outreach to and inclusion of community organizations in Johns Hopkins University and Health System community grant and sponsorship opportunities. Collaborate and coordinate with Johns Hopkins University and Health System leadership and staff dedicated to working on community engagement and health equity issues to ensure consistency of desired outcomes. Coordinate with the Office’s Communications team to promote community engagement to internal and external audiences. In coordination with the Office’s Government Affairs team, participates in government affairs outreach and engagement with State and local elected officials. Support the outreach and engagement efforts of the Hopkins Local initiative with community entrepreneurs. Read and summarize planning documents, studies and proposals relating to community activities. Submit possible stories concerning community efforts and activities to other internal publications. Regularly suggest and/or write stories for publication in internal and external publications e.g. The Dome, The Hub, concerning Hopkins and community efforts. Publish brochures and other materials in collaboration with GCE at the request of management. Promote local community engagement activities. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Business in Health Administration, Project Management or related field. Seven years of related experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree. Minimum three years related experience in community engagement. Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management. Demonstrated experience in event planning and management. Demonstrated experience in managing community programs and projects. Demonstrated experience working with the participant population.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
