Project Engineer
The Project Engineer will lead and support engineering projects within a food production facility, with a strong focus on construction management. This role ensures that capital projects, facility upgrades, and equipment installations are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with food industry standards. The ideal candidate will bridge technical engineering expertise with hands-on construction oversight. Responsibilities: Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables. Design and specify mechanical systems, utilities, and process equipment for food production. Coordinate with cross-functional teams including production, maintenance, quality, and safety. Ensure compliance with food safety regulations (e.g., FDA, USDA, GMP) and engineering standards. Oversee on-site construction activities including contractor coordination, site safety, and quality control. Review and approve construction drawings, RFIs, and change orders. Conduct site inspections and ensure adherence to project specifications and timelines. Manage commissioning and startup of new systems and equipment. Prepare technical documentation including P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and installation manuals. Maintain accurate records of project progress, costs, and compliance. Report regularly to stakeholders on project status, risks, and mitigation plans. Evaluate and select vendors and contractors for engineering and construction services. Manage procurement of materials and equipment. Ensure contractor performance aligns with contractual obligations and site standards. Essential Skills: Project management Construction management 5-7 years of experience in project engineering, preferably in food, beverage, or pharmaceutical industries. Experience in construction management or capital project execution. Strong knowledge of sanitary design, utility systems (HVAC, steam, compressed air), and process equipment. Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project, and engineering documentation tools. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Work Environment: This role is fully onsite at the facility in Independence. Job Type & Location: This is a Contract position based out of Independence, Missouri. Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $70.00/hr.
