The Role The GM Energy Data Engineering team seeks a talented Staff Software Engineer with expertise in Cloud Data Warehouse architecture, IoT data integration, Snowflake, Databricks, and Apache Iceberg. The candidate will design, implement, and optimize scalable cloud data warehouse solutions, including an Operational Data Store (ODS) for advanced analytics and business intelligence. What You’ll Do Architect and develop cloud data warehouse solutions leveraging Snowflake and Databricks. Design and implement data pipelines for IoT data ingestion, processing, and storage. Manage large datasets using Apache Iceberg for scalable data lake operations. Build an Operational Data Store (ODS) as a speed layer for near real-time use cases. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions. Optimize data models, storage, and compute resources for performance and cost efficiency. Ensure data quality, security, and compliance. Maintain documentation for architecture and processes. Set up monitoring tools and dashboards for pipeline health and performance. Mentor junior engineers and support their development. Stay updated with industry trends in data management and API development. Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, CS, IT, or related field, or equivalent experience. Experience architecting cloud data warehouses with Snowflake or similar platforms. Hands-on experience with Apache Spark and/or Iceberg for data lakes. Experience building Operational Data Stores (ODS). Experience with IoT data processing and analytics. Proficiency in SQL, Python, and ETL tools. Cloud experience with platforms like Azure (preferred), AWS, or GCP. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. Experience with data visualization tools is a plus. Proactive issue detection and monitoring expertise. Understanding of CI/CD practices. Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Preferred Qualifications Snowflake platform experience and certifications. Experience with real-time streaming technologies like Kafka or Spark Streaming. Knowledge of data governance and security. OCPP Protocol expertise. Certifications in Databricks and Apache Iceberg. Cortex and ML expertise. This job does not offer relocation benefits. Candidates are responsible for their own relocation costs. Company Vehicle: Eligible after review, with requirements to lease or purchase a GM vehicle every four years unless exceptions apply. Compensation: Base salary ranges from $165,000 to $270,900, with bonus potential and benefits including health, dental, vision, retirement, and more. GM does not sponsor immigration for this role.
