TITLE:
SCHOOL BUS DRIVER II
JOB GOAL:
To transport students safely, efficiently, and economically to and from school on a daily basis and to extra-
Curricular events on a non-regular basis
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED equivalency. The requirement may be waived after successful personal interview with school board personnel. Submit at least two references attesting to the applicant's ability, character, and personal qualifications Meet school bus driver certification requirements
Minimum hours of instruction Satisfactorily pass knowledge examination
Meet state requirements for appropriate licensing Meet local or state standards for driving test Meet local or state standards for driver record check All drivers must submit to random alcohol/drug testing Ability to operate all vehicle types used in transporting students Ability to operate telephone and radio communication when necessary REPORTS TO:
Director of Transportation Each driver shall be directly responsible to the principals of the schools he/she serves on matters related to student discipline and patron relations PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
To conduct pre-trip inspection of school bus prior to stops, at every trip, for defects To use established routes and designated bus To operate bus on approved time schedule To report bus accidents and student injuries to authorities To conduct emergency evaluation drills in keeping with division regulations To instruct riders regarding being responsible passengers To drive defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather To drive with safety of students as first priority To report person absences in time for supervisor to secure substitute driver To perform bus housekeeping duties inside and out To fill gas tank and add oil if necessary To report bus defects to supervisor or head of mechanics To establish favorable working relationships with other drivers, maintenance personnel, teachers, students, principals, and total school staff To exhibit positive image as a local representative of the school division To demonstrate knowledge of rules and regulations promulgated by local, state, and federal authorities To demonstrate knowledge of state laws and local ordinances To deal with exuberant behavioral characteristics of youthful riders To administer disciplinary procedures in keeping with school board policies and administrative regulations To be alert and exercise good judgement concerning emergencies, disabled vehicles, and irregular special requests by parents of riders To comply with dress code To perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work involves limited physical tasks and may involve limited lifting, stooping, and climbing steps
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
10 month contract

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation
