Release Train Engineer
The Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a member of the Agile Project Management Office (APMO). The RTE is responsible for ensuring that all delivery teams follow UMGC's Agile processes and practices while facilitating program increment (PI) planning and supporting the teams throughout the quarter. RTE will work with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Agile Coaches, and other delivery team members to foster a culture of relentless improvement and adoption of best practices. This role is a people manager role so prior experience would be expected as well. Duties and responsibilities include: Lead/facilitate/participate all Enterprise Agile and PI Planning ceremonies every quarter Lead/Facilitate agile team ceremonies for the organization Track the progress of the Agile Release Train (ART) to ensure the successful delivery of value to UMGC's customers Direct cross-team collaboration in the ART and resolving enterprise impediments, removing blockers and bottlenecks that impact the speed of delivery Encourage continuous improvement by supporting platform teams Agile Coaches and Scrum Masters to implement enterprise-wide best practices and processes Assist with creating enterprise performance reports (i.e. flow metrics, burn down, velocity, control charts) Monitor and share ART metrics with AcclerEd Leadership, the APMO and delivery teams, suggest new metrics, and drive improvement using metrics Understand the Software Development Life Cycle and agile/SAFE methodologies Challenge, coach, and guide the organization using Agile principles Manage the team of scrum masters to support their performance and development Support the initiatives of the APMO as directed Skills required include: Knowledge of software development lifecycle methodologies (e.g. Waterfall, Iterative, Agile) Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira or other Agile Planning tools, including reporting, querying and maintenance Experience coaching and training teams to Agile best practices Excellent impediment identification and resolution skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work in team environments across a diverse set of projects with multiple stakeholders Proactive approach to problem-solving and dependency management Delivery mindset Detail-oriented and internally driven to produce high-quality results Collaborative, creative and servant-leadership mentality Presentation skills Understanding of SAFe Methodology Experience with Agile metrics People management experience Education & experience requirements include: 5-10+ years of relevant professional experience 3+ years of experience acting as a Release Train Engineer (RTE) 3+ years of experience utilizing agile PM tools (JIRA, Confluence, Rational, etc.) 3+ years of experience with additional Agile frameworks (Kanban) 2+ years of experience running PI Planning sessions 3+ years of people management experience Certifications: One or more relevant Agile certifications (e.g. SAFe, RTE, PMI-ACP) Preferred experience requirements include: Bachelor's Degree The University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal and state laws regarding nondiscrimination.
